

WordPerfect still manages large documents and fine-tuned typographic formatting better than Word does Quattro Pro and Presentations remain adequate though less-powerful substitutes for Excel and PowerPoint and WordPerfect Mail is a well-designed e-mail program with powerful searching ability. After a few days of working with the just-released WordPerfect Office X4, I've decided I like the latest WordPerfect largely for the same reasons I liked most of the older versions, and I get annoyed with the new version largely for the same reasons the older ones annoyed me. WordPerfect Office doesn't change much with each new version, but that's one reason why thousands of loyal users won't abandon it for the high-tech novelties of each new version of Microsoft Office.

But if you clear the checkbox in this dialog box, it won't appear again at startup. According to a video I just saw on the Corel site, a dialog box is supposed to appear each time you start WP, asking which mode you want WP to start in.

This mode also uses some WPDOS keystroke combinations. One of these is supposed to be called WP5.1 Classic Mode, which emulates the blue editing screen of WP5.1 for DOS. I have used only the DOS versions of WP, and the Windows versions only up to WP9, but according to what I have read on user forums previously, the recent versions of WP including X4 have an option called "Workspace Manager" that allows you to choose several interfaces for WP.
